PSYCHOEDUCATION
& TRAUMA PREVENTION
WHY SHOULD TRAUMA
BE AT THE CENTRE OF CONTEMPORARY DEBATE?
Psychological traumas are much more common than we think, with devastating impacts not only on an individual level but also on society as a whole. Trauma resulting from child abuse, for example, has long-term consequences that affect the entire social fabric, from the microcosm of damage to physical and mental health to the macrocosm of public health systems, education, justice and the economy of nations. Currently, the World Health Organization (WHO) considers the consequences of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) to be the biggest public health problem in the world. From a collective point of view, trauma creates societies with high levels of school dropout, addictions, inability to work, crime and poverty. And surprisingly, we don't talk about it.
FROM A COLLECTIVE POINT OF VIEW, TRAUMA CREATES SOCIETIES WITH HIGH LEVELS OF SCHOOL DROPOUT, ADDICTIONS, INABILITY TO WORK, CRIME AND POVERTY. AND SURPRISINGLY, WE DON'T TALK ABOUT IT.
